Why does Rustic Strength's natural dish detergent work differently than conventional brands?
Rustic Strength automatic dish detergent is fundamentally different from conventional products, and that difference matters, especially in homes with hard water.
Most conventional dish detergents rely on synthetic surfactants, petroleum-derived chemicals, and artificial rinse aids. These ingredients are highly effective at binding minerals in hard water and facilitating their removal. The trade-off? Many of those chemicals are harsh on human health, waterways, septic systems, and indoor air quality.
Our detergent is made without those “extra nasty” chemicals, which means it cleans without leaving behind toxic residues on your dishes, but it also means it doesn’t overpower hard-water minerals the way conventional formulas do.
If you live in an area with hard water, the white spots or haze you sometimes see after a wash cycle are not detergent residue and not a film left behind by Rustic Strength’s products.
Those spots are:

- Other naturally occurring minerals from your water supply
During the final rinse cycle, as water evaporates, minerals from your home’s water supply are left behind on your dishes. Conventional detergents mask or chemically neutralize these minerals. Natural detergents don’t mask or neutralize these minerals.
